A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"The best vegan soul food ever! The staff is so sweet and kind, support local places like this! Cheap and yummy! basically it was the first best vegan meal I had in nyc . Fried chkn was fire with their hot sauce mmm"
"SoulKofa Vegan Health Food is the real deal. This spot brings the full soul food vibe without the meat, and you honestly don’t miss it. The menu is stacked: • Jerk “chicken” (soy-based) that’s seasoned right and hits the spice. • Mock oxtail made from jackfruit — tender, flavorful, and legit comforting. • Stew “chicken” (also soy) with a rich, savory sauce. • Fried oyster mushrooms that crunch like chicken. • Fried drumsticks that look and feel like the real thing. • Sides: rice & beans, mac & cheese with that golden top, roasted potatoes, candied yams, cabbage, broccoli in garlic butter sauce, and a green medley (spinach + kale + garlic). Everything tastes homemade but elevated. The greens are garlicky, the mac is creamy, the jackfruit oxtail could fool a carnivore. Portions are hearty and the staff makes you feel like family. If you’re vegan (or just curious), this is a Brooklyn gem. Soul food with no compromise. 235 Malcolm X Blvd, Brooklyn"
"Depending on what you’re ordering food is made fresh to order. I cannot say enough about the chef who made me ital soup upon request. It was so delicious and I saw him pound the dumplings by hand right there. That alone impressed me but my son’s burger and fresh cut in our face fries were delicious as well. If you want good, authentic, fresh food with great service go on and stop by Soulkofa and remember that good things take time. I’ll be back tomorrow for the rest of that soup because I’m sitting here upset that I didn’t get the large."
"Delicious yams, okra, vegan chicken and rice and peas. Nice clean place and kind server."
"Food was amazing. I loved the jerk chicken and rice. The oxtail was also amazing. Mac and cheese was sooo good. I forgot his name but the guy working there was so nice and helpful. I appreciated him being so kind and letting us try the oxtail."
"Mac and cheese, rice and peas, jerk chicken, fries chicken. All vegan and delicious!! I bought this from TooGoodToGo and i’ll definitely be back. The curry chicken patty, i bought separately."
"The chef provides wonderful hospitality and I can tell so much love went into the food. Will definitely be back again with friends"
"I’m not even vegan but the food here is incredible. I had never tried jackfruit but the oxtail plate with all the sides was as delicious (possibly even better, honestly) as the actual meat version at other non-vegan soul food spots nearby. I walk by this place all the time and have never gone in. I’m so impressed and will be back. The owner is also extremely kind and generous. These are the kind of neighborhood spots that deserve recognition and support!"
